denkmal
Vassel
Inspired by a journey through Germany and France and by Erich Maria Remarque’s "All Quiet on the Western Front", this work explores the contrast between public commemoration and personal loss.
The visual language of war memorials is transferred into an object for the private living space — to the place where a fallen soldier is missed not as a hero, but as a son, brother, partner, or friend.
The monument shifts from a public symbol to a personal object. Honour and glory give way to absence; collective remembrance becomes individual loss.
